Vilamoura is one of the largest and most popular holiday destinations on the
Algarve in southern Portugal.
It has an extremely smart and chic marina which plays home to a huge selection of boats, from small speedboats through to large luxury yachts and motor cruisers that most of us could only dream about owning.
There are a number of boats, including The Condor de Vilamoura, run excursions along the coast towards Lagos and beyond. Big game fishing trips can also be organised from here.
On either side of the marina you will find some very attractive sandy beaches which offer good amenities and several cafes and bars.
Over the years Vilamoura has become so popular with the British and Germans that many of them have decided to make their home here. Apart from the obvious advantage of fantastic year round weather Vilamoura is also within a 2½ hour flight of most European cities and then it is only a 30 minute drive from Faro Airport which is the airport for the Algarve.
Whether you are coming to Vilamoura for a two week holiday or just a long weekend there is plenty to keep you busy and occupied. In total there are six excellent golf courses within the area of Vilamoura. There is also the Vilamouraténis Centre which houses a tennis club, horse riding school, gun club, cinema and a wide choice of water sports to choose from.
At the large International Casino you can play American or French roulette, Portuguese dice, blackjack or slot machines or enjoy one of the nightly cabaret shows which play host to a variety of stars including Julio Iglesias. The Casino also has a nightclub and a cinema.
Most people are unaware that Vilamoura is in effect one large holiday complex rather than a small town. The roads are wide and easy to navigate, It is immaculately kept and although there are plenty of modern developments buildings blend in and tend not to stand out.
For most people a holiday or trip to Vilamoura means good food, whether at home or in one of the many local restaurants. The Algarve's cuisine is mainly fish and shellfish, but for those who prefer meat there is also a good selection of dishes to choose from. There is a good choice of international restaurants offering French, Indian, Chinese, Swiss and Italian cuisine.
And as well as all this Vilamoura offers a fantastic climate with long days with hours of sunshine (even in the winter), and the chance to really
relax whilst being no more than a three hour flight from home. Oh, and if your
from the UK there is no need to change your watches as Vilamoura is on the
same time zone.
